Melbourne Scoliosis Physiotherapy Centre (MSPC) is a practice dedicated to the conservative management of Idiopathic Scoliosis. Our physiotherapists are all trained in the Schroth Method of exercise and education as well as Pilates.
Our recommendations for management follow the guidelines produced by the International Scientific Society on Scoliosis Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Treatment (SOSORT).
All MSPC clients have a thorough Initial Assessment. This involves a postural assessment, lung function assessment, X-ray assessment, functional movement assessment and quality of life questionnaires. We meticulously record assessment measures before and after a course of treatment to monitor effects. Letters are written to Orthopaedic Specialists and others involved in the clients management to communicate findings, outcomes and encourage a team approach.
MSPC has three core treatment programs. Which program is recommended depends on the individual requirements found in the Initial Assessment. There are programs for clients at high risk of progression, low risk of progression, clients in pain and those who have had surgery. There is a group option for adolescents, which has significant psychological benefits as students meet others who share the condition.
All our practitioners are passionate about scoliosis and have travelled internationally to gain qualification in the Schroth Method. We work as a close team and take pride in knowledge sharing with each other and the client to gain the best outcomes. MSPC is excited to be the first physiotherapy practice in Australia dedicated purely to the management of Idiopathic Scoliosis.
